Costa Rican fishing is more than good, it is spectacular. With the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast, and the Pacific Ocean on the west coast, there are so many places for anglers to catch that trophy fish they have always dreamed of. Fishing Locations in Costa Rica

On the Caribbean side of the country there are a couple reputable locations. The northern part of the coast around Tortuguero and Barra del Colorado is the best option for quality catches. Weather in this region is irregular, so one day on the water differs from the next. On the right day fishermen are likely to catch Snook, Tarpon, Dorado or Wahoo. On really good days it may be likely that Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda or even a Sailfish. Getting around in Tortuguero is not easy, so make sure to plan ahead when going there.

North Pacific Coast Fishing in Costa Rica

The western coast is teaming with fishing operators and locations. Starting from the extreme north, Tamarindo and Flamingo each areas offer great fishing vacations. These two areas are some of the busiest tourists destinations, and are saturated with fishing tours. Parts of the year can be windy, but fishing is superb all year round. Some of the favorite fish to be caught include, Dorado, Tuna, Wahoo and Roosterfish. Trophy fishing is always certain here, as Sailfish and marlin regularly inhabit these waters.

Central Pacific Coast Fishing in Costa Rica

Jaco and Manuel Antonio are the best spots to find charter fishing tours in the central part of the Pacific coast. This area is much less windy than the north. Its possible to catch tuna, roosters, dorado, jack, mackerel, Wahoo, snapper and snook, but most anglers come to this area for the Bullfish. Los Suenos Marina in Jaco is reported to be the best marina on the Pacific coast south of the United States. Marlin and Sailfish are an added attraction to this spot as well.

South Pacific Coast Fishing in Costa Rica

Golfito, Drake Bay and Puerto Jimenez are the fishing spots best known in the south most Pacific coast. They offer landscapes very different from the central and northern ones. Like the other spots, Wahoo, Dorado, Roosterfish and Tuna are abundant. Inner fishing in the coves and bays can sometimes land you sea bass, Makeral, Snapper and Barracuda, but the marlin and Sailfish are out in the deeper waters.
